As the Director of Human Resources (HR), you will play a key role in cultivating a team of 250 employees within a values-driven culture centered on leadership, compassion, empowerment, accountability, transparency, and excellence.
The Director of HR will have a pivotal role building, from within, an organization committed to racial and economic justice. A core function of all staff positions at Local 2015 is to facilitate the work of members in achieving and demonstrating their own leadership and power. The HR Director reports to the Chief Operations Officer.
Duties & Responsibilities:
General
- Ensures all HR policies are up to date, maintained, applied consistently, and in compliance with state, local and federal regulations.
- Provides HR metrics.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and innovative technologies in human resources, talent management and employment law and applies this knowledge to communicate changes to upper management.
- Assists managers in understanding and implementing organization policies, culture building initiatives and collective bargaining with the staff union all through a union values lens. Plays a leadership role in collective bargaining with the staff union and culture-building initiatives.
- Works with senior leadership and supervisors to address employee issues and conflicts and build a supportive and inspiring culture.
Talent Acquisition & Management
- Plans, implements, and evaluates the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new staff in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of L. 2015.
- Develops and implements staffing strategies and programs in partnership with department heads that embrace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging that identify talent within and outside the organization for all levels within the organization.
- Develops and recommends progressive benefits programs to enhance staff health and wellness.
- Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action.
- Recommends and monitors mandatory employee/manager training in legally required areas such as sexual harassment training, etc.
- Provide support and guidance to management staff. Ensures consistency across departments.
Training & Leadership
- Trains and supports management staff, including department directors, in implementing labor management practices consistent with organizational mission goals and values.
- Work with senior leadership to develop and deliver onboarding and training materials to ensure employees understand their job responsibilities.
- Assist managers in evaluating performance as required.
Department Leadership
- Manages the budget and other financial measures of the HR Department.
- Directs and develops the HR department staff.
- Interacts with Officers and the Executive Board
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent experience.
- SHRM Certified Professional/SHRM Senior Certified Professional Certificate
- 5 - 10 years’ proven work experience as a HR director or other senior HR leadership position.
- In-depth knowledge of labor and employment law and HR best practices.
- Broad knowledge and experience with organizational planning and development
- Knowledge of HR systems and databases, safety, training, and development
- Excellent active listening, coaching, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Experience with and understanding of labor unions and collective bargaining, managing with union values.
- Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English highly desirable.
Salary Range: $131,524.58 – $141,637.58 commensurate with experience, and an excellent benefits package.
