Lead Organizer
Based in Topeka, KS
(with travel as required)
This is a full-time position in Topeka, KS. The Lead Organizer plays a leadership role in a variety of aspects of internal and external organizing including building relationships with workers, developing issues-based organizing plans for assigned areas, recruiting and sustaining motivation of local organizing committee members and activists, having 1:1 conversations with potential members to ask them to join their union, and assisting in executing local organizing plans to reach benchmarks with a focus on membership, growth, and engagement. Significant knowledge of and experience in union organizing is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have strong communications skills
- At least 2 years of previous labor and/or community organizing
- Be able to work independently while also being able to incorporate constructive feedback and direction from President.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population
- Willing to work long and irregular hours
- Be motivated, responsible, organized, professional and detail-oriented
- Dedicated to social & economic justice and higher education access
- Be in possession of an insured vehicle and valid driver’s license
- Must be competent in basic computer/web functions, and social media platforms
- Experienced in community and labor activism is a plus
SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organize and mobilize workers
- Attend regular meetings with supervisors and team to discuss progress and plan activities
- One-on-one visits, site visits, meetings, and other interactions with members and potential members
- Enter assessments and other data collected in a database on a regular basis
- Ability to travel the state as required
- Take direction on activities to grow membership and accomplish goals
- Mentor, train, and lead other organizing staff in the performance of the above duties
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Fully paid health benefits, paid leave (includes vacation, personal, and sick days), retirement benefits, and travel and expense reimbursements.
