TITLE: Associate Director, Division of Labor Action
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Associate Director is responsible for carrying out all activities of the Association related to labor relations and collective bargaining matters.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable to the Director of Strategic Campaigns.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides staff services to MNA local units in carrying out the goals of MNA’s Labor Division by:
- Assisting in organizing local units.
- Assisting MNA local units in contract negotiations, representation, contract administration, including the processing of grievances and arbitrations.
- Work with local unit leadership to improve and maintain local unit organization, membership recruitment and communication systems.
- Assist local units in developing contract proposals. Supplying unit leadership with information needed to support proposals. Provide guidelines to local leadership on materials they should collect.
- Evaluate local unit’s needs for educational programs and provide as appropriate or arrange through other Association resources.
- Assist members in utilizing the resources of the Association and other appropriate agencies as needed.
- Interpreting the goals and programs of the Association to local unit members.
- Reporting on local unit activities and needs to the Executive Director, MNA staff and members where appropriate.
- Participate in MNA staff meetings, serves on staff committees as requested and submits activity reports in a timely manner.
- Participates and assists the Board of Directors as assigned by the Director.
- Assists and participates in MNA Conventions.
- Acts as a resource on all MNA programs and activities.
- Keeps informed of economic trends, Labor Board decisions, general trends in labor relations, especially those affecting the health care industry.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Labor Relations experience – minimum two years.
- Advanced education in labor relations, business or law preferred.
- Leadership experience required.
- Experience and knowledge of the health care profession and experience as a local unit leader desirable.
