Staff Associate, Contract Enforcement / Grievance
Based in New Brunswick, NJ
Rutgers AAUP-AFT (AFL-CIO), which represents over 9,000 faculty and staff at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is looking for a full-time staff person to work in contract enforcement and grievance administration. We want a dynamic individual with a desire to learn the ins and outs of contract administration and enforcement. The person we hire will work with our contract enforcement team and will assist members through various grievance processes while tracking enforcement issues and developing constructive problem-solving relationships with university personnel. This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, represented by the Communication Workers of America Local 1032. The position is hybrid but the candidate must be available for in-person work as necessitated by the specific job responsibilities and consistent with the needs of the Association.
Qualifications:
- Excellent research and writing skills with careful attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent verbal and communication skills— ability to communicate clearly and
- effectively is a must for this position
- Strong computer and organizational/record-keeping skills
- Experience in complex problem-solving and skillful listening
- The ability to work well in stressful situations
- Familiarity with higher education collective bargaining and issues pertinent to higher education preferred
- Understanding of the labor movement and NJ public sector labor relations are a plus
Responsibilities:
- Assist in tracking and implementing negotiated grievance procedures
- Assist members with workplace problems/issues
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of grievances, including mediations and arbitrations
- Responsible for tracking and enforcing provisions of Rutgers AAUP-AFT Agreements and providing careful review and analysis of documents
- Work collaboratively with union leaders and staff on addressing a variety of issues related to members’ workplace issues
- Assist in preparation and presentation of various workshops and member meetings
- Assist in tracking and implementing negotiated grievance procedures
