The New York State Nurses Association is a labor organization of over 40,000 frontline nurses standing together for strength at work, nursing practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. We are New York's largest union and professional association for registered nurses.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position will report to the Director of Organizing and will perform all phases of organizing activities in accordance with operational requirements along with the objective of enhancing NYSNA membership.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all phases of organizing activities such as targeting, research, developing leads, progress assessment, recruitment, issue development, strategizing, escalating tactics, voter assessment, GOTV strategies – with the objective of increasing NYSNA’s membership.
- Develops and applies a thorough working knowledge of labor and employment laws in the campaign setting, especially as pertains to exerting pressure on the employer.
SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES & DUTIES:
- Identify potential contacts within a community to gain support for organizing.
- Develop new leaders through education, action and participation.
- Conduct home visits to identify and recruit potential member leaders and assess their desire to become members of NYSNA.
- Lead organizing committee meetings, construct agendas and provide direction for next steps.
- Evaluate and assist in establishing community coalition/alliances where appropriate.
- Coordinates campaigns and membership drives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s degree in labor relations or a related field.
- A minimum of three (3) years of responsible work experience in union organizing that
- demonstrates a planned approach to problem solving and campaigns
- Demonstrated success in organizing campaigns.
Or
- A satisfactory combination of education, training and experience.

Salary range is based upon Union salary scale of $89,000-$101,000 depending upon education and experience
