Membership Campaign Manager

Summary: Maine Service Employees Association, SEIU Local 1989, is seeking to hire an experienced Membership Campaign Manager to serve its affiliated local unions.

Description: MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 is a labor union representing over 13,000 public and private sector employees throughout the State of Maine.

Duties:

• Create and maintain tracking and accountability systems for membership recruitment.
• Work with the Director of Organizing and Field Operations create and implement membership recruitment campaigns including supervising staff and supporting member leaders.
• Work with Director of Organizing and Field Operations to integrate membership campaigns into the organizing and advocacy programs of the union and field staff.
• Coordinate with the International Union on membership programs, campaigning, grant reporting and accountability.
• Assist internal organizing and membership recruitment program within your assigned projects.
• Build and maintain the membership recruitment program work: supporting field representatives with tools, best practices, feedback, and data to build the membership recruitment program.
• Engage membership in union activity including: identify worksite issues, organize and take worksite concerted activity, implement contract campaigns, engage in political program, engage in public pressure campaigns.
• Design and implement creative organizational strategies to build the local union and advance the interests of its members.
• Identify, recruit, train and support member leaders by building the steward program, creating and implementing membership recruitment tools and mentoring stewards on membership recruitment, building and supporting steward trainings and leadership development program.
• Supervise the Member Leadership Organizer and other organizers as needed.
• Assist in designing and conducting educational programs on unions, union benefits.
• Other duties as assigned

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate to workers from a wide range of backgrounds
• Ability to be self-directed, think on your feet, and solve problems creatively
• Must be able to work independently and develop and implement strategic campaign plans
• Experience leading a team of staff
• Experience in developing leadership
• Experience with building worker power through organizing
• Proficient with computers, databases, spreadsheets, email and Microsoft applications
• Experience managing field campaigns including setting goals, tracking progress, troubleshooting
• Experience with social media, texting applications, virtual meeting tools
• Must be able to travel for extended periods, and to work long hours, including weekends as needed
• Must have a car and a valid driver's license
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field preferred
