Lead Organizer

LAANE is seeking someone with a commitment to social justice to join our Long Beach team. Our team works with union partners, community allies, the faith community, and grassroots leaders to build political power for working people and communities of color.

Position Responsibilities:
- Civic Engagement Programming
- Support the Project Director in designing and executing civic engagement programming, managing work plans to ensure logistics, timelines, and deliverables are met.
- Lead the coordination of voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts, including Get-Out-The-Vote GOTV campaigns and canvassing operations.
- Lead the coordination of canvassing teams, including overseeing volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement programs.
- Lead the management of civic engagement data to assess effectiveness and make adjustments to field and digital civic engagement efforts.
- Support the Project Director in developing and preparing reports and presentations to evaluate program success.
- Community Organizing & Mobilization
- Lead work plan coordination of base-building efforts, ensuring the team is identifying, engaging, and mobilizing community members to expand participation and engagement on campaigns, including but not limited to, planning and facilitation of events, workshops, house meetings, and community meetings.
- Support and monitor the teamʼs efforts in building relationships with local organizations and community leaders to strengthen coalition work.
- Policy Advocacy & Community Engagement
- In coordination with the Project Director, assist in advancing policy initiatives by coordinating advocacy efforts with the organizing team and partner organizations.
- In coordination with the Project Director, represent the organization in coalition meetings, legislative meetings, and policy discussions, ensuring worker and community needs are prioritized.
Job Qualifications:
- Experience: 5 years in community organizing, civic engagement, political advocacy, or nonprofit leadership.
- Cultural competency and social justice values/work experience: A strong commitment to racial and economic justice and the labor movement; cultural humility and mindfulness; knowledge of the Long Beach political context is a plus, fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Working as a leader within a team: Ability to work independently and collectively within a team, and thinks proactively. Is well organized, and possesses strong interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence.
- Dedication & Responsibility: Willingness to work long hours and weekends, detail-oriented, can balance multiple projects and work well under deadlines. Has a positive, can-do attitude, problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn.
- Adaptive leader with hard and soft skill versatility: Experience with public speaking; proficiency or experience in PDI campaign management, CRM database management, and voter outreach tools; and, bilingual Spanish preferred).
Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, salaried position at $80,000. LAANE offers 100% Employer Paid Family Medical, Dental and Vision, and a 401(k). LAANE is a qualified federal student loan forgiveness employer.
Generous paid time off, including 12 personal days, 8 observed holidays, and 3 floating holidays each year. LAANE has a paid, two-week winter break at the end of each year. Employees can accrue up to 20 vacation days and 12 sick days. After 5 years of work, all staff are eligible to apply for 3 months of paid sabbatical leave.
The position is not a 9 to 5 job; it requires work on nights and weekends, as well as an expectation to take responsibility for LAANEʼs broader work as assigned/needed for all LAANE campaignʼs and ‘all hands on deckʼ actions. We are a proud union employer. This position is a bargaining unit position.
